Operation Buddy Rescue

Who is Buddy?

carolineandbuddy

In August 2014, Buddy was adopted from a shelter.  Buddy came to the shelter as a very fearful dog with an unknown history or what had happened in his past to make him that way.  He caught the eye of a gentleman who adopted him that very day.  The adopter later told us that he could see Buddy was damaged and he thought they could help each other. No one had any idea how damaged Buddy was at that time.  Shortly after being adopted, Buddy escaped from his leash due to the over-whelming amount of fear he had of everything, including love.

Buddy’s fear caused him to remain evasive for over eight weeks, loose in the nearby woods.  Operation GYPSY, Inc., (our parent organization) which does search and recovery of lost dogs and specializes in fearful dogs on the run, was able to safely capture him after two months of blood, sweat, patience and perseverance.  The fear Buddy had was exacerbated by being loose all that time.  It was determined the best thing for Buddy would be to help him learn he was safe.  It was a commitment of unknown lengths, expense, patience and time. Buddy’s original adopter allowed Rich (the Operation Buddy Trainer) and Caroline (one of the founders of Operation GYPSY) to take Buddy under their wing and try to give him the chance to learn to trust.  Buddy’s original owner has since adopted two more rescue dogs who are happy, healthy and loved. Through the hard work of Rich and Caroline, Buddy was brought from a very fearful dog to one that has learned what love, trust, clowning around and being part of a family is all about.

Caroline and Rich continue to work with Buddy.  His progress continues, but one thing was certain from the beginning, Buddy fell head over heels for Caroline and Caroline fell head over heels for Buddy.  Buddy was adopted by Caroline where he lives with her other dogs and adores her as much as she adores him.  Caroline likes to point to Buddy and say, “the love of my life.”  We agree with that, but we also know she is the love of his life.  All you have to do is see them together.

Buddy has a fan club and hundreds of followers that have watched from the day he escaped, to the capture, his training, his adoption, his continued training and the ever popular, “Collar Change Sunday.”

If you want to get the latest updates on Buddy, he has his own FaceBook group called “For the Love of Buddy”.

About Us

Since starting the rescue in September 2015, the Operation Buddy Rescue family continues to grow.  The family, headed by the three founders also consists of their dog trainer, rescuers, fosters, transporters, fundraising committee, donors, sponsors and animal lovers that have saved numerous lives of dogs and cats that were abandoned, surrendered, neglected, mistreated or unwanted.

The OBR team put their hearts and souls into helping those that have no voice in their community.  The first concern when another puppy, dog, kitten or cat comes into the rescue is the animal’s health, welfare and finding just the right environment where that pet can heal, learn and flourish.

Foster a Dog

Mission Statement

Operation Buddy Rescue LLC is a non-profit organization and is part of Operation GYPSY, Inc 501(c)(3). We are a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer pet rescue serving the greater Rochester, NY area. We are dedicated to helping dogs that are homeless, in public shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia, or given up by owners due to inability to properly care for the animal.

Any dog brought into our care will be placed in a approved foster home where they will receive any vet care needed to ensure health and prevent reproduction. Fosters will also work with approved trainers, if needed, to ensure emotional well being and safety of any pet before placement into a permanent home. We will remain committed to any pet in our care after they are adopted requiring that should it not work out they are returned to us and never given away or placed in a shelter.

We vow to put  all donations received towards the care of pets we take in. We also will strive to work with other shelters, rescues, and humane organizations to help create a safe and caring network to help dogs in need. Our group will always be committed to the care of dogs in our care and community, striving to help through our foster program and education of those we work with or come into contact with.

Progress of our Pups

Arie

Miss Arie is doing great, vet said nice and healthy, hips are good, etc She doesn’t care for the fall chill in the air so needed a sweater already. Few accidents first few days here but nothing since so believe she has the hang of the whole house training thing. Very sweet dog, loved playing with a visiting shih tzu and is better about my ‘big’ dogs.

trixie

Trixie, such a pretty girl. Still no clue if she is pregnant but she is relaxing… little by little. Bathed her today, she was not a fan but had to be done. She will now walk past me and actually came over to where I was sitting when all the other dogs were right by me. Little steps.

October 7, 2015 – Progress, she has learned the dog door and now lets herself in and out of the house. Best yet, she took a tablespoon of cream cheese from me – ate it while I was holding the spoon. We found her weakness and I plan to exploit it…. cream cheese.
